Discovering Istanbul and Cappadocia

Our recent FAM-trip, organized in collaboration with MEP Destination Business Solutions and Turkish Airlines, allowed us to experience Türkiye’s charm and diversity in a way that was both enriching and memorable. Starting in style: a yacht cruise on the Bosphorus

Upon arrival in Istanbul, our journey began with a peaceful evening yacht tour along the Bosphorus. The calm waters and setting sun created the perfect backdrop as we cruised between Europe and Asia, passing by Istanbul’s iconic landmarks such as the Dolmabahçe Palace and the Bosphorus Bridge. The yacht offered a relaxing introduction to the city and the views were a spectacular way to start our trip.

Following the cruise, we headed to Boaz Roof, a stylish restaurant with stunning views of the Bosphorus and the city skyline. The atmosphere was elegant yet relaxed and the food—modern Turkish cuisine—was a delightful introduction to the region’s flavors. We ended the experience with an unforgettable Turkish welcome party. It was the perfect way to conclude our first evening in Istanbul, setting the stage for the days ahead.

Exploring Istanbul: art, history and hidden gems

The next day, we delved into the cultural heart of Istanbul. We were fortunate to have Natamam, an expert guide, to show us around. Our first stop was the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, where we explored contemporary Turkish art that showcased the country’s evolving identity. The exhibitions were thought-provoking and gave us a deeper understanding of the modern cultural landscape.

We then headed into the souks, where the energy of Istanbul was at its most vibrant. Wandering through the labyrinthine alleys of the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Market, we experienced the hustle and bustle of local life. The stalls were filled with everything from aromatic spices and handwoven textiles to beautifully crafted jewelry and traditional Turkish sweets.

One of the trip’s unique experiences came when Natamam took us on a rooftop walk above the Grand Bazaar, offering a breathtaking view of the city’s skyline. From here, we could see the minarets and domes stretching across Istanbul—a scene made even more iconic by its appearance in the James Bond movie Skyfall. The rooftop view gave us a moment to appreciate the city’s blend of ancient and modern.

The mystical beauty of Cappadocia

MEP Destination Business Solutions had arranged for us to explore some of the region’s most fascinating historical sites. We visited the underground cities, a network of caves and tunnels that early Christian communities used as shelters. Walking through these subterranean structures, we gained insight into how people lived and survived in this rugged landscape centuries ago.

The meal was set in a picturesque outdoor setting, with locally sourced ingredients and traditional recipes that highlighted the best of Cappadocian cuisine. With fresh, locally sourced ingredients and innovative preparation, the dinner showcased the depth and richness of Turkish cuisine. The intimate atmosphere made it a truly special evening to remember.
